Making an Application

If your work involves supporting,  managing or some other contact with people with a learning disability,
you are likely to be asked to obtain a CRB check.

CRB checks cannot be obtained by members of the public directly but are only available to organisations and only for those professions, offices, employments, work and occupations listed in the Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

For this reason your application will be processed either by your employer, if it is registered with the CRB,
or a third party organisation, called an Umbrella Body, which is registered with the CRB.

This is what you need to do if you want to obtain a CRB Disclosure for a new member of staff.

  1. You request CRB application forms from the ARC Disclosure team (these have our unique registration number and cannot be used with anyone else).
  2. We will post CRB application forms and some extra paperwork to your workplace.
  3. You meet with the applicant to complete and check the CRB application form and verify their proof of identity (3 pieces of evidence are needed)
  4. You send the CRB application form, to us.
  5. We will process the CRB application form, checking that all the information is accurate.
  6. We will contact you if any amendments are required.
  7. After we check the application, we will send the form to the CRB.
  8. We will keep you informed and will regularly monitor the Disclosure’s progress.
  9. We will as far as possible, post the Disclosure to you on the same day that we receive it from the CRB.

You can find out more about making an application on the CRB website.
